Welcome to the members section of eastwooddivers.co.uk. This page will be regularly updated with club information, planned dive trips and forthcoming events. Our bigger trips and expeditions will be posted on the left under Trips and Events while our regular weekend and evening dives will be posted on our twitter feed.
We are currently planning dive trips for the coming year. Some of the ideas are below, but if you fancy planning something different there is plenty of help and support available to you. All members are encouraged to contribute and plan their own expeditions.
Tarbert, Loch Fyne
This is a great opportunity to get some practice diving from a hard boat in before some of the other trips organised for next year.
The dives will be suitable for all sport divers, with this trip geared towards newly qualified and less experienced sport divers. All the dives will be nice easy ones and relatively shallow. All qualified members are of course welcome on the trip. Dives will be weather dependent but we're hoping to get at least one small wreck in.
Seahouses, North Sunderland
Always a trip that sticks in everyone's memories for one reason - the seals! The Farne Islands are home to a large seal colony, with over 1400 pups born every year. Underwater, they are very inquisitive and playful, and will often come right up to divers and nibble you fins.
We will be diving with Sovereign Divers as usual and staying in their B&B accommodation.
Depths at the Farne Islands are generally a maximum of 25m so this trip is open to all qualified Sport Divers or those who expect to be qualified Sport Divers with a small amount of experience (20 dives +) by next June.

Sound of Mull
A weekend diving the Sound of Mull, and weather permitting Bo Fascadale and Coll. Accommodation is self catering at the Morvern Dive Lodge in Lochaline.
The Sound of Mull is tidal and often has currents on the dives. The wrecks can be as deep as 50m, although you can easily stay shallower than 30m on every dive. As the diving is more challenging, this trip is open to sport divers and above with at least 50 dives by next July.

Heard of a great dive site, or fancy organising a weekend away but don't know where to start? The following resources have been put together to help you plan a dive trip effectively and safely:
There are many resources available on the internet with information on dive sites, dive centre locations etc.
Finstrokes is always a great place to start with it's interactive dive map - providing detailed dive guides, dive centre locations, and information on charter boats. There is also a forum connecting you to thousands of other divers, with a huge collective knowledge on everything to do with diving!
Divernet also has great guides to some of the most popular dive sites - Look out for their WRECKTOUR section!
When planning an expedition, always check the weather and tides before setting off:

Pilmuir Quarry, Newton Mearns
Eastwood hosted a summer solstice open day and barbeque for all Scotsac Clubs to attend. It was a huge success with at least 9 other Scotsac branches in attendance including Campbeltown, Clydebank, Forth Valley, Glasgow South, Hamilton, Kilmarnock, Midlothian, and Pentland. We're very fortunate to have access to the quarry as a club and we were pleased to share it with others. It was a great opportunity to build relationships between clubs.
Isle of Arran
Two dives on Sunday 25th August from MV Seren Las - Pladda Southend and Kingcross Point, Arran. Ropes off 7am at Largs Yachthaven.
Pladda is a small island, just off the South Coast of Arran. The colourful reef runs from 14-28 meters and is full of Dahlia Anemones, Plumose Anemones, dead men's fingers, and brittle stars. There is an abundance of fish life here as well as large crabs and lobsters
** Trip rearranged from May due to bad weather **
Sound of Mull
Lochaline, Sound of Mull
Two days diving the Sound of Mull, staying at the Old Post Office in Lochaline (self-catering). Diving from the Peregrine or Brendan. Air/Nitrox available from Lochaline Dive Centre.
Red Sea Trip
Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt
A week of diving from MV Whirlwind, doing the northern wrecks and reefs of the red sea. Reef diving on some of the best reef in the Red Sea including Tiran and Ras Mohammed, along with all the best wrecks like the Thistlegorm, Kingston, Dunraven, Giannis D and Carnatic.
